The Alliance Fire Department provides emergency response and fire protection to the Village of Alliance and surrounding area as part of the Flagstaff Regional Emergency Services Society, commonly known as FRESS.
Alliance currently has approximately 14 active volunteer firefighters and operates a local fleet that includes one structural fire engine and two wildland fire trucks. Although our firefighters are based in Alliance, they are part of a coordinated regional emergency-services system. When an incident requires additional personnel, equipment, or specialized resources, neighbouring FRESS stations can respond and work alongside the Alliance department.
This regional approach helps ensure that Alliance residents are supported by both a dedicated local team and a wider network of trained emergency responders.

Become a Volunteer Firefighter
Make a Difference in Your Community
The Alliance Fire Department welcomes community-minded people interested in serving as volunteer firefighters.
Volunteer firefighters come from many different occupations and backgrounds. Previous emergency-response experience is not necessarily required. Training, guidance, and opportunities to develop practical emergency-response skills are provided through the department and FRESS.
Volunteer firefighters may assist with:
- Structural and wildland fire response
- Motor-vehicle collisions
- Emergency scene support
- Fire prevention and public education
- Equipment checks and station duties
- Training exercises
- Community events
- Regional mutual-aid responses
Being a volunteer firefighter requires commitment, teamwork, reliability, and a willingness to continue learning. Members must be prepared to attend training, maintain their qualifications, and respond when available.
You may be a good fit if you:
- Want to contribute to your community
- Work well as part of a team
- Can remain dependable in challenging situations
- Are willing to learn new skills
- Can attend regular practices and training
- Are interested in emergency services or public safety
No one is expected to arrive knowing everything. New members learn gradually through supervised training and participation with experienced firefighters.

Department Meetings
Department meetings are used to discuss station operations, upcoming training, equipment, community events, safety matters, and FRESS updates.

Training and Practice Nights
Regular practices help Alliance firefighters maintain their skills, become familiar with equipment, and prepare to work safely together during emergencies.

People interested in joining should contact the department before attending their first practice so that a member can meet them and explain what to expect.
About FRESS
Flagstaff Regional Emergency Services Society
FRESS coordinates emergency services throughout the Flagstaff Region. Its purpose is to bring participating fire stations, personnel, equipment, training, administration, and emergency-response resources together within one regional organization. The FRESS model allows local stations to support one another during larger or more complex incidents. Depending on the emergency, crews from multiple communities may be dispatched to provide additional firefighters, fire apparatus, water supply, command support, or specialized equipment.
For Alliance residents, this means that fire protection is not limited to the equipment and firefighters located at the Alliance station. Our local department remains an important part of the community, while also having access to regional support when it is needed.
